Better than Moonshine: Masterpost
Jul. 1st, 2011 09:28 amTitle: Better than Moonshine
Genre: Jared/Jensen AU
Rating: NC-17
Word Count: 33,000
Summary: After publishing a few dime store paperbacks and one novel that scored decent critical success, Jensen's in a bit of a rut. He's got an editor breathing down his neck, an overdue novel that needs to be written, and a weeklong workshop to lead on beating writer's block. To top it off, he has a vicarious one-night stand, and now the guy keeps showing up all over the place. It turns out that a little petty larceny, a car crash, and possible blackmail--all in the name of fun--might be exactly what he needs to kick-start his writing again.

Date: 2012-05-25 05:38 am (UTC)Well, I mean, I've written *things*, but nothing with a real start and an end that I can point to and say "I wrote that."
I've been very haphazardly been making my way through a friend's rec list of J2 fics, and had opened yours earlier this evening but hadn't made it past the cover page of the PDF before I said "damnit, I want to create something!"
And then I stared at a blank page for 20 minutes and came up with a couple mental character sketches and then sighed and opened your fic back up again.
Then I read the whole thing.
And, well, this isn't a pick up line, but it is a long, convoluted lead up to me saying your fic was amazing, and kind of inspiring, and exactly what I needed to read tonight as a reminder to myself to stop feeling mopey because my old fandoms aren't inspiring me to write anymore and to start writing about the stuff life is throwing at me now.
So thanks.
ETA and now you're really going to think I'm crazy, but I have to share this snippet of wisdom that my girlfriend (also a writer) said after I showed her my crazy reply, because it just fits this story to a tee:
"'Old fandoms' isn't a way to put it though. Think of it as... obsessions. writers have to write about their obsessions! Otherwise there's no passion involved."
